Making Music Today!
The Folk Song Connection
Grades 3 through 8
This dynamic program is based on a folk song connection for general and music education classrooms. Students develop talents and skills for life-long connections to music.
• Folk song based music collection with easy accompaniments.
• Instrumental scores are color-coded for easy reading and playing of chordal accompaniments.
• Instrumental scores and songs are printed on overhead transparencies. This allows the teacher to focus student attention - separate student books are not needed.
• Color-coded blocks (measures) indicate the I, IV, V chord changes used in most traditional folk music.
• Yellow chord blocks = I Chord
Blue chord blocks = IV Chord
Red chord blocks = V Chord
• Beginning or experienced players/students will enjoy accompanying themselves as they sing.
• Colored dots are placed on a selected instrument according to the chordal positions to be used.
• Guitars, autoharps, dulcimers, keyboards, etc. are appropriate as accompanying instruments, by individuals or classes of students.
• Hand drums and other rhythm instruments are included as accompanying instruments. * Optional
• Making Music Today! - The Folk Song Connection
